In just a little over a month, we will experience a once in a lifetime, spectacular event. A total eclipse of the sun is coming on August 21, 2017; the moon will completely cover the sun. According to NASA, those in the path of totality will be able to see the sun’s tenuous atmosphere, the corona. This is the first total solar eclipse visible to us in the United States in nearly 40 years!
We are so excited that our charming, historic town of Kimmswick is in the path of totality for the eclipse. The partial phase of the eclipse begins just before noon (between 11:49 and 11:50 to be exact). The total eclipse will start at 1:17:10PM, and we will experience 2 minutes and 20 seconds of this amazing phenomenon.
Of course, our town has planned a celestial celebration, and you’re invited! Solar Eclipse Experience Kimmswick (SEEK) will take place on August 21 from 10am to 4pm. Come to Kimmswick to purchase your t-shirts (for only $12, $15 for extended sizes), caps, posters, solar eclipse glasses, balloons and fans. The world-famous artist Ted Wright has commemorated the historic event with a beautiful piece of artwork, which is featured on the memorabilia. We have many exciting activities planned, including a seek-and-find game with several special photo opportunities. There will be an Eclipse goody filled basket giveaway. At the Team Eclipse booth come sign our guest book, which will be on display in the future at the Historical Society Museum.
As you know, The Blue Owl and many Kimmswick businesses are normally closed on Mondays, but we would not miss out on this epic event! We will be open from 10am to 3pm. Keep your eyes on our Facebook page; we’ll share information about special desserts, beverages, etc., as we get closer to the event. We’re expecting over 800,000 visitors to Jefferson County that day, making Hwy 55 one of the busiest highways in the United States on the afternoon of the eclipse. Please remember to bring your patience along with you, and plan well ahead of the event. We already have around 100 reservations for the day, so we highly recommend giving us a call at 636-464-3128 to make yours today!
JC Corcoran from 93.1 will be in town for a live remote. There will be trivia, raffles, and music all day. Bring your blankets and lawn chairs to celebrate this remarkable event from 10am to 4pm.
I hope to see you for the Great American Eclipse! In the meantime, dream big and always remember that Dreams Really Do Come True!
All My Love,
