This past weekend in Kimmswick, we celebrated our annual Strawberry Festival. What a delight it was to see the streets of our charming town filled with people of all ages enjoying the festivities! Strawberry-themed items and strawberry flavored treats were abundant at all our wonderful shops and restaurants, plus over 200 vendors.
Why do we celebrate this delicious and plentiful berry? There are so many reasons!
- They have plenty of what you need. Strawberries are high in fiber, Vitamin C, flavonoids, folate, and anthocyanins. These factors keep your body in better shape, prevent disease and promote brain function. The health benefits expand to include your bones, hair, eyes, skin, memory and cardiovascular system.
- They’re missing what you don’t need. Strawberries are low calorie and are low in sugar. While decadent treats like we serve daily are perfect for indulging, we can’t always overdo it. Strawberries are great to eat often, on almost any type of diet plan.
- They make you feel good, literally and figuratively. Strawberries are an anti-inflammatory food, which can decrease pain. They also are natural mood boosters.
- They have long-term benefits. These include prevention of heart disease, asthma attacks, allergies, cancer, birth defects and hypertension.
If you need one more reason to celebrate strawberries, may I suggest the taste? Strawberries have been delighting taste buds for much longer than we’ve known their health benefits.
If you missed out on our Strawberry Festival, you can still drop by for a delicious strawberry treat at The Blue Owl. We’ll see you soon. Always remember that Dreams Really Do Come True!
All My Love,
