Race day is quickly approaching! Many of you are aware of, and have enthusiastically participated in, the 5Kimmswick for several years now. In fact, last year, over 600 people gathered to run, walk, cheer, support, and raise funds for the Nancy Ratliff Medical Fund and The ALS Association. Each year, the number of participants and the amount raised grows, and we are so very grateful for that. In 2014, this group of amazing volunteers, sponsors, racers, and supporters raised $40,000.

Just in case you are new to the 5Kimmswick, let me tell you all about this wonderful event and the person who inspired it. A very dear lady, Nancy Ratliff was diagnosed with ALS in the summer of 2009. Her family and our Blue Owl family, watched helplessly as this beautiful woman was literally overtaken by the disease.  Within one year she was completely paralyzed, required a ventilator to breathe and a feeding tube to eat. Her eyes reveal the spirit that lives within; she is strong and amazing, I love her dearly. Her family needs financial help to provide the constant care she requires.

Each year, we gather to assist with this cause. The money not only helps Nancy’s family with catastrophic medical bills, it also supports the fight against ALS through the ALS Association. The annual 5Kimmswick is a great day of community and friendship, and I do so hope that you’ll join us! You can register or donate online, and begin your fundraising efforts. The registration fee includes a t-shirt, a box lunch from The Blue Owl Restaurant and Bakery, and post-race drinks. The top finishers in each age group will win one of the Blue Owl’s famous pies. Plus, the more money you raise, the more you will receive. Prizes include our famous Levee High Apple Pies and entry into a drawing for a free iPad.

On race day you will run through historic Kimmswick, alongside the Mississippi River, the Anheuser Estate and the Windsor Harbor Bridge (the oldest known wrought iron bridge in Missouri). After the race, folks enjoy a great celebration of the event, including attendance prizes, refreshments, a silent auction, music, shopping in Kimmswick and more! If you aren’t a runner, you don’t have to miss out on the fun. There is also a 1-mile fun run/walk that everyone can enjoy.

I am looking forward to spending the day with friends and community, as we support this lovely family. I hope that you will join us. However you spend the rest of this beautiful summer, please do remember that “Dreams Really Do Come True!”

All My Love,

P.S. Thank you to 5kimmswick.org for the picture.
