~ Saying Goodbye to Festus ~

As a mother, grandmother, wife, and owner of the now-famous Blue Owl Restaurant and Bakery, I have been blessed to have many of my dreams come true! I recall the day another dream was born; the day we celebrated the 24th anniversary of The Blue Owl Restaurant and Bakery, was the same day we opened The Blue Owl Sweet Shoppe, right next door. Featuring an old-fashioned soda fountain, candy store, and gift shop, the shop includes the beautiful Eggleston Room, named after my dear parents, and is filled with cherished family photos. Many families come and make their own precious memories at our Sweet Shoppe while enjoying specialty ice cream and coffee drinks, as well as the sweetest birthday parties and showers.

Five years ago, The Blue Owl expanded to Festus Main Street as our second Sweet Shoppe location. We were so blessed to serve a second charming community with baked goods, ice cream, sandwiches, quiche, soups and more. It was thrilling to be part of Twin City Days and other community events. The local business owners love to work together to make their community special.

In the meantime, we have also expanded to the darling town of House Springs, where we have our production facility and shipping department, as well as an adorable storefront to serve the area. What a wonderful whirlwind this time has been!

As we approached our five-year anniversary in Festus and the end of our lease, we saw the need to reevaluate our plan. We were spread a bit thin, and felt that it was time to pull back and work to continue our strong presence in Kimmswick. As my dear daughter Kim said in her interview with The Leader, “We have really enjoyed our five years there, but times change and it’s time to pull back a little.” I am very thankful that we were able to offer all of our Festus employees positions at our remaining locations, and especially happy that Paige, our Festus manager, will be joining us at the Kimmswick Sweet Shoppe!

With that, dear friends, we say goodbye to the wonderful community of Festus. We are so thankful for each of you that supported us while we were able to be a part of your community. We hope that you will continue to visit us at our other locations and are looking forward to many more years in the Kimmswick and House Springs communities. Of course, there are other dreams to fulfill, and I have come to know again and again, Dreams Really Do Come True!

All My Love,

~ Mary
