It never ceases to amaze me how far people travel to have a meal at The Blue Owl. Each day, we have people from Texas, California, Florida, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Arizona, and more! We have a couple who travels over five hours from Mississippi to dine with us, and then, they return home in the same day! Each Thanksgiving we have people who drive from the Chicago area the day before to pick up their Thanksgiving desserts! Amazing ! Vacationers come in whether they are on their way to another destination or staying in the area. Friends and family bring their out of town guests for the special experience of dining with us and having a wonderful home cooked meal and a fabulous dessert! We feel so honored to be their chosen destination! I am so blessed!
We have recently had guests from Scotland, England, South Africa, Ireland and Germany share that they learned about The Blue Owl from our appearance on The Food Network and the Travel Channel. The show was viewed in their country. I received a lovely email from a lady in Scotland a couple of weeks ago, expressing how much she enjoyed her visit with us. In it she said:
“I was very blessed to be visiting my cousin Janet in House Springs
last week. I came from Scotland to visit her. One of the highlights of
my trip was to visit the beautiful town of Kimmswick and having lunch
at The Blue Owl. The food was glorious. I have never seen such choice
of food or such an array of of beautiful and delicious cakes. But more
than all that was the wonderful welcome and feeling of friendship. I
was happy to meet the inspiration, Mary herself, so busy yet still
taking time to make us feel special. We also had such a lovely
waitress whose name I didn’t get but she had been there for 20 years.
Thank you! I can’t wait to try some of the recipes.”
The German Historical Society has The Blue Owl and Historic Kimmswick on their agenda when they visit the United States. One day, a local couple from Jefferson County told me that they were watching TV in their hotel room in Japan and were so excited to see us featured on The Food Network while there. I was teaching Jamie and Bobby Deen how to make the Caramel Apple Pecan Pie on their show, “Road Tasted“! I asked, “Was I speaking Japanese?” and sure enough, it was translated on the screen!
Once an Oregon man, who owns a store that specializes in French Chocolates, was traveling with a group to Chicago for a Confectionery class. They returned to Oregon by way of Kimmswick just so they could come in and try our Levee High Apple Pie. Another couple from Chicago came in because they had heard about us two years prior from one of our television appearances. They knew that if they ever came to St. Louis, they would stop by The Blue Owl –and they loved their experience!
Each and every day our little town of Kimmswick, Missouri, has visitors from all over the world! Another amazing example that “Dreams Really Do Come True!”

P.S. Even in this extreme heat , God continues to bless us as our friends and customers come to the Blue Owl. We were blessed to serve over 800 people this past weekend, even with the record breaking heat! One of our guests was a beautiful and charming lady celebrating her birthday! 102 years old!
